Today, I’m sharing some exciting news about a new online culinary magazine debuting right here in Southeast Georgia on April 15, for which I’ll be a regular contributor! Meet Southern Soil: A Growing Food Movement. With a focus on the future of sustainable food, the magazine will serve as a platform to bring together consumers, producers and purveyors of local fare. I am thrilled to support this effort, as the magazine’s mission is right in line with my own views of eating what’s in season and sourcing ingredients locally as often as possible.
Just so we’re all on the same page, let’s define what sustainable means. Sustainable agriculture is the production of food using farming techniques that protect the environment, public health, humans and animal welfare. In short, it’s a form of farming that produces healthful food without compromising future generations’ ability to do the same. Learn more.
My recurring feature, Some Kinda Good in the Neighborhood, will showcase farm-to-table restaurants and teach readers how to cook with what’s in season now. In each edition, I look forward to sharing mouthwatering recipes, plus stories from my own kitchen and Southern upbringing. Don’t you just love the name of my feature? Has a nice ring to it!
