Tequila Herradura Silver, Ultra and Double Barrel.
I received an exciting invitation this week to attend a tequila tasting and exquisite dinner in the Grand Ballroom of The Olde Pink House, nestled in the heart of Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District. Who could say no to that? You had me at tequila! I learned so much about Casa Herradura Tequila, from its history to its sustainable and natural production process and had the opportunity to meet Global Brand Ambassador Ruben Aceves.

Based in Guadalajara, Mexico, Ruben has served as the Director of International Brand Development for Casa Herradura since 2000. He oversees the development of Tequila Herradura and El Jimador, as well as serves as the tequila brand ambassador, educating sales teams and others on Casa Herradura’s robust tequila portfolio.
The evening was elevated by live music – a soft acoustic guitar filled the beautifully adorned room with tunes such as “Sweet Caroline” and “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You.” Servers offered guests the most delicious bite sized Hors D’oeuvres, beef empanadas and shredded pork tenderloin with pineapple chutney. Trays of jalapeno and watermelon margaritas featuring variations of Tequila Herradura were circulated along with red and white wine.
The menu was Some Kinda Good!
I sat between a native Savannahian in insurance sales, and the delightful owner of a trucking company who is a self-proclaimed lover of tequila. We enjoyed great conversation and bonded over our love for Walker Pharmacy in Statesboro. The room was filled with restaurant owners in Savannah (shout out to Donald Lubowicki and Jeffrey Downey of La Scala Ristorante and Circa 1875), alcohol distributors and suppliers, and other food writers like Jesse Blanco from Eat It and Like It. During cocktail hour, Jesse and I clinked our jalapeno margaritas for a toast to our new books – Savannah Food Crawls by Blanco and Unique Eats and Eateries of Savannah by yours truly, which will each feature different angles on The Hostess City’s robust and growing dining scene and teach readers how to navigate this popular food destination.
The watermelon margarita was smooth and refreshing, garnished with a fresh watermelon cube.
The first course tasting trio was divine – Shrimp Ceviche, paired with Silver; Pulled Pork with Cilantro Lime Slaw, paired with Double Barrell; and Chicken Tinga with Tropical Salsa, paired with Ultra. The Silver has a fiery spice with woody notes, while the Double Barrell has notes of cooked agave, vanilla, allspice, clove and oak. Last but not least, the Ultra was smooth and sweet with hints of cooked agave, caramel, and honey with toasted almonds.

For dinner, I selected the Grilled Chili Lime Shrimp, served with rice and roasted corn. A Silver Paloma and a big wedge of grapefruit complemented it nicely. Pictured below is also the Braised Beef Short Rib served with spiced polenta and Roma tomato salsa.
Dessert could not have been more pleasing – a Creme Caramel paired with Legend Tequlia. Served in a neat flute glass, the Legend tequila was incredibly rich, with deep color and a luxurious and velvety smooth taste.

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Ketchum for the invitation, and to The Olde Pink House owner, chef, servers and staff for the phenomenal evening. The service was top notch, the food absolutely sublime, and of course, the tequila over the top. Learn more about this world-renowned Tequlia and where you can find it!
In true Southern hospitality, guests departed with a pair each of Tequila Herradura sipping glasses.
